The Craft: Horn Carving and Silver Chain Assembly
This hair stick is carved from a single piece of natural horn, polished to a smooth, translucent finish. The top features a carved floral or leaf-like pattern, part of the shaft itself. A gold-colored star-shaped pendant is affixed to the tip, from which hangs a multi-strand gold chain with small colored beads (blue, purple, yellow) and a star charm.
The silver chain tassel is assembled by hand, with each bead and charm attached to fine S925 silver links. The combination of horn's warm translucency and the delicate silver chain creates a piece that moves and catches light with every turn of the head.
The Horn
Horn has been used in Chinese hair accessories for centuries, valued for its natural warmth, lightweight feel, and subtle translucency. Each piece is unique — the pale yellowish-brown color and slight variations in grain are marks of genuine horn, not defects. Over time, horn may develop a deeper patina with wear.
Because horn is a natural keratin material, it is static-free and gentle on hair. Avoid prolonged soaking in water, as horn can warp. Store away from direct heat and sunlight.
Fit & Care
This 150mm stick is best suited for fine to medium hair, or for creating smaller buns on thicker hair. The slender horn shaft and delicate silver chain are not designed for very thick or heavy hair — for that, consider our wooden hair sticks for a more rigid hold.
Care: Wipe with a soft dry cloth after use. Avoid water, perfume, and hairspray contact. Store in a dry place away from heat.
Q: I've never used a hair stick before — is it difficult to learn?
Not at all. Most people get a secure hold within 2–3 tries. The basic technique: gather your hair into a loose bun, twist it once, then insert the stick diagonally through the base, angling it so it crosses underneath the bun and anchors against the scalp. Q: How do I keep it from sliding out?
Two things make the biggest difference. First, slightly dry or day-2 hair grips far better than freshly washed hair. Second, insert the stick at a diagonal angle through the base of the bun rather than straight through.
Q: Will a hair stick damage my hair?
Hair sticks are one of the gentlest hair accessories available. Unlike elastics, they create no tension or pulling on the hair shaft. Long-term hair stick users often find it reduces breakage compared to everyday clip or elastic use.
